Hello Son,
June 1st : Grandma's Birthday
Mom was in school in the morning.
Grandma sent a text to Mom to say that Grandma's friend, who was supposed to go with Grandma to Genting Highlands that day, was not well, and not able to go.
Grandma asked Mom to go instead.
Grandma is always so happy playing at the Genting Casino. It's like the happiest place on earth for Grandma. On top of that, the last 2 times, which was Mom's first 2 times, at the casino with Grandma, we went back with 1K each.
Both times.
Last week, Grandma went with her friend and Grandma made 3K.
So, being Grandma's birthday, Mom could not refuse.
It's like a sign ...
It's Grandma's birthday, and one of Grandma's children (who is able to take off on a moment's notice) should be taking her up, and not anyone else.
So there.
Dad would be at home, with Ryan.
Ryan is coughing, and did not go to school.
At 11 am, we went up to Genting by a private cab.
We reached up there slightly pass 12 pm.
We had a simple lunch.
Grandma had fish porridge and Mom had herbal soup with ribs.
About an hour later, we were at the casino.
The roulette tables were all taken up.
Grandma said, "Draw up your chart ..."
Lol.
You know right, your grandmother ... has her own way to play roulette.
She writes down the numbers ... tries to make a pattern or sequence if you like ... and that's how she places her bets ...
Not long after, we saw a man leave his table.
By the way, these are individual roulette machine tables ya.
So Grandma went to that table and sat down.
Mom stood beside / behind, Grandma.
A number was called.
Mom can't remember which one.
Anyway ...
the next table, on the left of Grandma, became vacant almost immediately.
Was that your doing, Daniel?
Grandma ushered Mom to sit there.
Mom did not want to play on her own.
She was more confident when Grandma stands beside her.
Like the first 2 times.
Grandma insisted.
Grandma was like, "Sit down, quickly sit down, before someone takes the seat."
So Mom reluctantly sat to down.
She felt so uncomfortable. Dad was not with her, and Grandma was like busy on her own table.
This is only Mom's 3rd time at the casino.
Grandma looked over and whispered, "Where's your card?"
Aww man ... man ... man ... are we really doing this?
Reluctantly, Mom took out her Genting card and RM100 cash.
Her card went in, and then her cash.
It's time to place her bets.
Omg ...
How?
Which numbers?
She looked over her handmade chart to try to figure out the sequence of the game, like how Grandma taught her.
Pause.
Mom must have looked pretty ridiculous from where you're at, looking down.
Anyway, your mother was very conscious ... there were security cameras everywhere.She could feel the eyes behind those cameras on her ...
mocking her ...
and her carefully recorded chart of numbers ...
Omg ...
So anyway ... the call for "PLACE YOUR BET" was sounded.
Mom looked down on her screen, and suddenly noticed that her screen was in Mandarin.
Whilst trying to figure out how to change the language to English, Mom heard -
"NO MORE BETS."
Oh well ...
Mom whispered to Grandma, "My screen is in Mandarin."
Grandma whispered back, "Change it back to English."
Your mother looked at the buttons on the screen and tried to guess which was the correct one to click.
Then she saw on her screen, and heard, (OMG ... would you believe it???)
Number 21.
Omg.
What???
What are the chances???
That was an easy one.
But your mother had not placed any bets.
Number 21 had not come out for the last 20 over rounds (as Mom checked the previous numbers on her screen) ... and now that Mom had just sat at the table, her number 21 came out???
OMG.
Seriously???
What a waste.
Sigh.
You must have been shaking your head up there.
So anyway, Grandma came over to help Mom change her screen to English.
Then, it's time to PLACE YOUR BETS.
Mom tried to study her chart, to see if there were any possible pattern ... to guess the next number. This is Grandma's secret. This is how Grandma plays. Grandma swears by it. It's difficult for Mom to say it's nonsense, because the 2 times that we played before, we made 1K each.
That's 4K.
Gosh, she could feel her pulse racing ... it was so stressful, playing the game on her own. It would have been must easier to have Grandma stand beside her and just tell her which numbers to bet on.
Haha.
So anyway, Mom tried to place a bet on zero one two (012).
As her finger touched the screen, her screen automatically turned to Mandarin language again.
Oh darn ...
She was soon fumbling about to change it back to English.
The "NO MORE BETS" box came to view.
She looked at the tiny ball rolling around the roulette and slowly landed on number 25.
Pause.
Number 25???
Seriously???
That's Mom's number. (her birthdate).
First, 21.
Immediately after, 25???
OMG ...
Were you trying to say HI to Mom?
But of course.
It's so clear.
21 ... and 25.
Your number ... Mom's number.
Hi Ma ...
you must have said.
ZAP ZAP ZAP!
Mom very much wanted to snap a photo of the 2 numbers to show Dad later ... but she was afraid to do so ... as photography was not allowed in the casino ... and she didn't know how to secretly take a photo under the circumstances.
So anyway, to cut a long story short, Mom finished up her RM100 cash within the next 2 rounds.
She was totally not impressed with herself.
Mom quit the game.
She's not a gambler.
Richard Heart says not to be a gambler anyway.
And she is not.
Grandma looked over and asked, "You're giving up already? So fast?"
Mom said yes.
Your mother told Grandma to enjoy Grandma's game and that Mom would be down at the cafe for a bit.
At the cafe, Mom found a cozy corner.
She had ordered a cup of Milo and a slice of quiche.
She took out her handphone to continue her tetris.
Chuckle.
At 14:40 pm, Grandma sent an audio text to Mom.
Grandma asked Mom to go back to the casino, and told Mom that the game was really good.
Mom noted the excitement in Grandma's voice.
It is after all Grandma's birthday. She should be happy today.
Mom said, okay, will go up in a bit.
So anyway, your mother took her time to finish up her drink and quiche.
It was about 3:10pm when she went back to the casino.
Mom walked over to Grandma's table.
Mom took a peek at Grandma's credit and ... blinked hard.
Omg.
Her credit line showed a big fat ZERO.
No winnings.
Omg. What happened???
By the time, Grandma had placed her bets and awaiting the next number to be called out.
(Apparently, Grandma had made about 800 when she called Mom just now. However, the winnings started to dwindle ...)
Mom felt sad.
Grandma must go home happy.
It's Grandma's birthday today.
Mom whispered quietly, "Daniel, please let Grandma win her 1K today. It's Grandma's birthday. Please son. Make her happy today."
Mom said over and over and over.
The numbers from then on were Grandma's lucky numbers.
She won at every round after that.
Yes, every round. No kidding.
Be it small or big bets.
Mom joked, "Wow. You were zero just now, but the moment I came, your numbers started to come in."
When Grandma reached over 1.2K, Mom said, "Let's stop now. Let's go, Mom. Enough for today."
Grandma laughed and said, "I'm still waiting for my twenty-eight and twenty- nine (28/29) ..."
Grandma refused to go till her 28/29 comes out.

Mom found herself whispering, "Come on, Son, give Amah her 28/29 ... 28/29 ... 28/29 ... Give Amah 28/29, Son ... 28/29 ... Please Son, Amah will be so happy ..."
Your mother continued to plead and hope for 28/29.
Not long after, Grandma gave a little shriek.
TWENTY-NINE!!! (29)
Grandma said excitedly, trying to contain her laughter.
Mom peered over to see the number 29 on Grandma's screen, and was secretly happy to see quite a bit of chips on it.
Ting ting ting ting ting ... the winnings poured in.
It was about 1.8K then.
Mom said, "Enough already. Stop here. Let's go."
Grandma just laughed.
We still have some time, Grandma said.
Our cab was coming to pick us up at 4 pm.
It was about 3:20pm then.
Grandma continued to place her bets.
Omg ...
You're so not gonna believe which number came our next!
NUMBER 28.
Grandma jumped out of her seat and squealed with excitement.
"28 / 29 ... See? I told you 28 / 29 will always come out ..."
Omg. Mom couldn't believe her eyes.
The 2 numbers actually came out one after another.
Omg. That was incredible.
She had mumbled to her son for a 28 / 29 ...
She honestly did not expect it ...
How in the world did both the numbers ... 29 and then 28 ... appeared one after another???
How???

For some reason, this time, Mom found the guts to just whip out her hp and quickly snap a picture.
Hahaha.
Grandma said she felt so, so, so satisfied.
We went to the cashier to cash out the winnings.
We were ready to go home.
Mom sent the photo of the 2K winnings to the family and told them we were on our way home.
What a day.
Mom was so meant to be with Grandma on her birthday, and witnessed those ZAP moments.

Our cab came to get us at 4 pm as agreed.
We reached home about 5:30 pm.
After-office traffic had started.
Our family would be meeting for dinner later at 7:30 pm.
Thankfully at a restaurant in Taman Desa.
Nearby.
We don't have to travel far.
Thank goodness.
Grandma wanted to eat crabs.
Another ZAP moment is about to be revealed during dinner.
OMG ...

At the restaurant ...
We were at the restaurant by 7:30 pm.
Aunty D said, "The delivery people made a blunder with the flowers.
I made a complaint and they gave us a FREE bouquet ..."
Pause for the words to sink in.
What???
FREE bouquet???
The flowers came looking like this.
Totally unlike the online brochure.
Weary and tired. Washed out.
Petals were dried up.
So Aunty D made a stinging complaint
about how shocked she was when she saw the flowers.
The company manager apologised and told
Aunty D that they would send her a FREE bouquet
to replace the miserable looking one.
Grandma with her FREE bouquet.

Grandma said she had the most fantastic day on her birthday.
She was at her favourite place in the whole wide world in the morning.

After dinner, we were in the car.
Mom asked Dad for the receipt.

At the casino this morning, the table that was behind Grandma was number 44.
The number was on the front of the table ... which means Mom was like leaning against the number 44 as she leaned against the table behind her. Grandma's table was in front of table 44. Mom was standing behind Grandma.
Can you picture that?
44 was right behind her.
At her back.
Mom noticed that.
