Hello Son,
Today is your 21st.
Mom has something BIG to tell you.
Her skin still crawls when she thinks about it.
It started on Tuesday night, August 9th.
It was about 10:20 pm.
Mom was brushing her teeth, to get ready for bed.
Out of the blues, Dad said out loud,
"Can you give me a gua-sha facial?"
That was totally unexpected.
Mom frowned.
What???
It was late, and she was tired.
Giving Dad (or anyone else for that matter) a facial
was the last thing on her mind.
In the bathroom, with the door ajar, Mom pretended
not to hear. She continued brushing her teeth and did
not respond.
Haha.
Mean, right?
Especially when it was very rare for Dad to ask Mom
to give him a facial in the first place.
When Mom was done in the bathroom,
she came out and saw that Dad had arranged a towel
over the pillow and had positioned the pillow nicely on the
bed where it would be easy for Mom to stand beside the bed
to do the facial.
Roll your eyes here please.
Oh well.
The gua-sha facial is quite fast.
The cleansing is already done.
Mom would just use the gua-sha and massage
the face.
5 minutes will do.
Humph.
10 at the most.
Mom got some lotion to moisturize Dad's face and neck.
As she started the guasha on Dad's neck, a text came in.
Your father checked the text, and said, "It's from Justine.
She got into an accident ..."
WHAT???
"She's okay ... She's settling some stuff over at the moment,
and will call us when she's done."
Mom's heart started to race.
OMG.
What happened???
Her hands were tensed, and she couldn't concentrate on the facial.
Dad was like, Ouch here and Ouch there, slow down will you?,
not so hard etc.
Within minutes, Mom said, "Okay done."
What happened???
Dad said, Justine will call back, she's settling the tow truck.
Mom felt a chill crept up her spine.
Omg.
It's late already.
Almost 10:30 pm.
Did you whisper to Dad to ask Mom for a facial, because
you wanted Dad to be laying down when he received the news?
OMG, Daniel.
What happened???
Your sister sent over about 10 photos.
By the way, Justine sent the photos to Dad directly.
So that Mom would not have to see them.
Mom did not dare to look and did not dare to
read any further texts that your sister might say.
That was Tuesday night. August 19th.
Mom was pacing around the bedroom.
All kinds of images were flashing across her mind.
Justine called about half an hour later.
Your sister said, she was trying to avoid a motorbike rider
who suddenly without warning, turned into her lane.
As she swerved to avoid the rider, she lost control of the
car, and the car went plunging down into a ditch.
The airbags were activated. Dad was impressed by this
because that car is 14 years old. She was supposed to
drive this car s-l-o-w-l-y in a small town.
Within seconds, according to Justine, 20 over village
people who were staying in a long house nearby, ran
over to help her. Your sister's exact words,
"About 20 to 30 kampung people came to help ..."
The first thing your sister did, was to call a doctor-friend,
who called Justine's boss,
who arranged and despatched an ambulance
to her site immediately ...
with one of her doctor-friends to accompany her.
The tow truck was summoned.
The police arrived.
All within minutes.
She wasn't alone.
The rider, by the way, sped off.
Nobody saw him.
Except you.
Give him a kick in the butt, will you please?
Her 2 bosses arrived at the scene.
Drove her to the hospital.
Checked her, scanned her, and kept her overnight
for observation. Her physical examination showed
that all was good.
However ...
She had a pain in her chest, which we deduced
could be from the impact of her seat-beat.
Mom was relieved that she would be in the hospital
that night. Otherwise, who would take care of her
if she went home?
The next day on Wednesday morning, August 10,
you must have whispered into Mom's ears ...
because she suddenly found herself blurting out to Dad,
"Let's visit Justine. We have to go visit her."
We have never visited Justine in East Malaysia before,
since she would normally come home when she has
a few days off.
Plus there was no reason to visit, as she would be
coming home for good in November.
Dad did not respond immediately.
Pause.
Sometimes, this can be irritating.
Mom's the hasty one.
Always has been.
And always will be.
Mom was adamant.
Mom wanted Dad to get us a flight that
Wednesday afternoon.
It was too rush, Dad said.
Urghhh!
So Dad got us tickets on Thursday morning,
August 11th @ 8 am flight.
After school, that Wednesday evening,
your parents went to the bakery shop.
Ryan was with us.
Mom wanted to get some buns for the teachers
since we would not be in school on Thursday
and Friday.
At the bakery, Mom picked up some buns and
walked to the cashier :
The cashier said, "Twenty-one, forty."
Huh???
A sudden sense of calmness kinda swept over your mother.
Her son is reminding her that he is with her.
Mom is not alone.
Justine is not alone.
Mom quickly took out her money and handed
it over to the cashier.
As your mother was walking out, she looked
at the receipt.

Thank you, Son, for being with Justine and watching over her.
After the bakery, Dad and Mom went to the grocer.
We wanted to get some stuff for Justine and the doctors
who have come to her aid.
Mom thought of chocolates.
Then Dad said, whenever Justine goes back from a
short holiday with us, she would always buy
Gardenia bread. Apparently, the people over there
loves Gardenia bread.
So anyway, at the grocer's, we had a bit of tea
at the cafe, as Ryan wanted a donut.
The waiter gave us this number for our hot drinks.
That's a direct 21 in your mother's eyes.
Thanks Son.
Everywhere your family is, there you will be.
Oh, at the point of writing this line, Mom realised
she forgot to ask Dad for the receipt here.
After our tea, we went to get the bread.
We bought all kinds of Gardenia buns and a nice
carrier to serve as a gift bag of goodies.
(not filled up yet) |
There are 2 boxes of Ferrero Rocher chocolates at the bottom.
We are ready for our trip to East Malaysia.
By the way, Justine does not know we are going
over to visit her. It would be a surprise visit.
Mom did not want to tell her beforehand, in case
your sister felt she had to tidy up and clean up her
room to accommodate Dad and Mom.
Your sister is still having the check discomfort,
and she is clearly shaken by the incident. We did
not want to put her into any more stress.
